The Matching Trucks Game is here!
Kids can test their memories and play hide and seek with the big rigs in this very fun and educational app. Kids love matching and memory games. Part of the reason for that may be because they are so good at them! Often, younger kids will do better in these games than adults. At 100 Things, we are wondering why that is!
And apparently, it’s because they ARE better at memory matching than adults. But only up to a certain age!
According to Alan Searleman, a Psychology Professor at St. Lawrence University, New York as quoted in Psychology Today, kids have better ‘eidetic’ or photographic memory abilities than adults. Searleman says this type of memory is not linked to intelligence but is more related to kids’ growth and development. Apparently, kids start to lose their photographic memory after 6 as they start to process information in a more abstract way. But, as Psychology Today says, this may not be a bad thing: ‘Although psychologists don’t know why children lose the ability, the loss of this skill may be functional. Were humans to remember every single image, it would be difficult to make it through the day.’
So, matching games do not necessarily make them smarter but they are very important for younger children with regard to confidence. Kids need big learning ‘wins’ in their formative years. They feel good about themselves when they do well and this helps them to want to learn more. It also makes kids feel great when they beat their parents! Varying degrees of difficulty in matching games can also help build your child’s concentration and determination to keep trying.
So let’s get matching! With 3 levels of difficulty, great photos of trucks AND a natural ability to match, your child will love the Trucks Matching Game App. For more matching action, you can also check out these other great apps by 100 Things:
